NeXplore Search Sheds Beta, Rebrands as NeXplore Search 2

NeXplore Search Sheds Beta, Rebrands as NeXplore Search 2

Market Wire, November, 2009

NeXplore Corporation (PINKSHEETS: NXPC) today
announced that the company’s flagship product NeXplore Search
( www.NeXplore.com ) has emerged from beta and is now branded NeXplore Search
2.

NeXplore Search 2 is an interactive and visually engaging Web 2.0 search
engine optimized for a superior end-user experience, multi-media display
and social sharing integration. First introduced in public beta in January
2008, NeXplore Search 2 currently averages more than 5 million unique
monthly visitors according to Web-analytics company Compete.com.

“We have removed the beta label because we have achieved our goals for
stability, scalability and performance. However, we remain committed to our
longstanding practice of introducing user-driven innovations,” said Edward
Mandel, CEO of NeXplore Corporation. “We are working to enhance several of
NeXplore Search 2’s popular personalization and socialization features, and
we plan to integrate a Web-based operating system and application suite for
managing and consolidating email accounts, contacts, calendars, music,
projects, and more.”

Mandel added, “The past two years have been great in terms of product
development, feature refinements and user adoption. We anticipate the next
two years being equally productive and exciting as we ramp up sales and
strategic business development initiatives.”

Commenting on NeXplore Search 2’s new branding, Scott Grizzle, chief
marketing officer for NeXplore Corporation, said, “Branding NeXplore as
’search squared’ speaks directly to the dramatically different NeXplore
Search 2 user experience as compared to the user experience of the
incumbent search engines. The NeXplore difference is immediate, refreshing,
and we believe, markedly better, particularly when it comes to NeXplore
Search 2’s options for displaying search results and our creative use of
rich media.”

Grizzle continued, “Despite all of the rhetoric coming from traditional
search engines about differentiation and change, what we’re seeing across
the board is the ’same old, same old,’ virtually indistinguishable user
experience. According to a survey recently reported in the Wall Street
Journal, nearly 40 percent of consumers use a single search engine for no
better reason than force of habit

New guideline: 2 years between Pap smears

0 Comments | Deseret News (Salt Lake City), Nov 21, 2009 | by Lauran Neergaard Associated Press

WASHINGTON — First mammograms. Now — in an apparent coincidence — Pap smears.

New guidelines by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists say most women in their 20s can have a Pap smear every two years instead of annually to catch slow-growing cervical cancer.

The change comes amid a separate debate over when regular mammograms to detect breast cancer should begin, in the 40s or the 50s. The timing of the Pap guidelines is coincidence, said ACOG, which began reviewing its recommendations in late 2007 and published the update Friday in the journal Obstetrics & Gynecology.

While the two sets of recommendations are unrelated, they come at a time of intense debate over health-care reform. Mammograms in particular have drawn broad attention in Congress, reflecting a more than decade-long debate in the cancer community about how best to perform mammograms.

Republicans sought to connect the mammogram recommendations to the health-care overhaul, contending that such findings are the way that medical rationing starts.

Under the pending legislation, “nothing would prohibit the federal government from deciding if tests, treatments and procedures are too expensive, and therefore, unnecessary,” Sens. Jon Kyl of Arizona, the Republican Whip, and Tom Coburn of Oklahoma, a physician, said in a joint statement.

But the Pap guidelines promise to be far less controversial as doctors for years have been told to perform fewer Paps among many women over 30, to cut back on unneeded care for the least at risk — and there’s growing understanding that over-treating younger women is an issue, too.

“The tradition of doing a Pap test every year has not been supported by recent scientific evidence,” said Dr

Under-18s put health in danger eating salty takeaways

0 Comments | Daily Mail (London, England), The, Nov 18, 2009

Byline: Jenny Hope

ONE in six youngsters eats a saltladen ready-meal or takeaway every day, a survey shows.

Under-18s typically have three or more a week, while 16 per cent are putting themselves at a higher risk of stroke by eating the meals daily.

A previous study revealed ready-made sauces were among the convenience foods that contain high concentrations of salt.

Nine out of ten people questioned about their diet knew too much salt was bad for their health, but 40 per cent did not know adults should eat no more than 6g – or a teaspoonful – a day.

The survey of 3,000 people was released by Siemens and The Stroke Association to raise awareness of the hazards of ‘hidden’ salt in processed foods.

Eating high levels of salt and taking too little exercise can lead to high blood pressure, which is a major cause of stroke.

However, 64 per cent of people told researchers they were unconcerned about their salt intake, while 57 per cent said they had no idea how much they were eating.

Under-18s were the most likely to check the salt content of food (21 per cent read product labels, compared to a national average of 10 per cent).

But this group was also more likely to eat salt-rich ready-made foods and takeaways.

Just half of teenagers knew such food was likely to be their main source of salt, compared with three quarters of older people.

Three out of four admitted they add salt to their food during or after cooking.

Checks on ready-made sauces earlier this month found celebrity chef Jamie Oliver’s spicy olive, garlic and tomato pasta sauce contained as much salt as ten bags of ready-salted crisps.

Joe Korner, of The Stroke Association, said: ‘Each year an estimated 150,000 people in the UK will suffer a stroke. High blood pressure is the single biggest risk factor for stroke.

‘Eating too much salt on a regular basis as well as not exercising can contribute to this.’ j.hope@dailymail.co.uk
